Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mengetahui respons pertumbuhan dan hasil sorgum terhadap jarak tanam dan waktu penyiangan gulma. Penelitian dilaksanakan pada bulan Desember 2014 hingga April 2015 di lahan percobaan Fakultas Pertanian Universitas Sumatera Utara Medan dengan ketinggian 25 meter di atas permukaan laut. Rancangan penelitian yang digunakan adalah Rancangan Petak Terpisah Faktorial. Faktor pertama adalah jarak tanam (70 cm x 30 cm, 70 cm x 20 cm, 70 cm x 10 cm) dan faktor kedua adalah waktu penyiangan gulma (tanpa penyiangan, disiangi 2 minggu setelah tanam, disiangi 4 minggu setelah tanam, disiangi 6 minggu setelah tanam, disiangi 8 minggu setelah tanam, bebas gulma). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa perlakuan jarak tanam meningkatkan tinggi tanaman, berat basah malai per sampel dan produksi biji per sampel sedangkan pada perlakuan waktu penyiangan gulma meningkatkan tinggi tanaman, jumlah daun umur, diameter batang, berat basah malai per sampel, berat basah malai per plot, produksi biji per sampel, produksi biji per plot, dan bobot 1000 biji.
The purpose of this research was to study the response of growth and result sorghum with spacing and weeding time. This research was conducted from December 2014 to April 2015 at the Experimental Farm of the Faculty of Agriculture, Sumatera Utara University, Medan with altitude 25 meter above sea level. The research design used Split Plot Factorial Design. The first factor was spacing (70 cm x 3 cm, 70 cm x 20 cm, 70 cm x 10 cm) and weeding time (without weeding, 2 weeks after planting, 4 weeks after planting, 6 weeks after planting, 8 weeks after planting, without weed). This research showed the treatment of spacing increased height of plant, wet weight of tassel per sample and sample seed production. Weeding time increased plant height, number of leaves, diameter of stem, wet weight of tassel per sample, wet weight of tessel per plot, sample seed production, plot seed production, weight of 1000 seed.
