The Growth and Production of Mung Beans in Ultisols with Applications of Liquid Brown Algae Compost on Various Combinations of N and K

The addition of organic matter to the soil and inorganic fertilizer uses can improve soil properties. This objective of the research was to know the effect of liquid brown algae (Sargassum polycystum C.A Argadh.) compost application that combined with N and K fertilizer on chemical properties of Ultisols and growth and production of mung bean. This research was conducted in a screen house and laboratory that was using a non-factorial randomized block design with 19 treatments and 2 replications. Data were analyzed with Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) and continues with Duncan’s Multiple Range Test (DMRT) at the level of 1% and 5% and Contrast Test at 5% level. The results of the research showed that the application of liquid compost of brown algae can increase soil pH (H2O) and soil available-P, but decrease soil organic-C, soil total-N, and soil exchange-K. The application of liquid compost of brown algae with various combinations of N and K fertilizers was tendency to decrease all plant parameters such as plant height, number of leaves, number of primary branches, number of pods per plant, and seed weight per plant compared without the treatment of brown algae compost.
Penambahan bahan organik ke dalam tanah dan pemakaian pupuk anorganik dapat memperbaiki sifat tanah. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh aplikasi kompos cair ganggang coklat (Sargassum polycystum C.A Argadh.) yang dikombinasikan dengan pupuk N dan K terhadap sifat kimia Ultisol dan pertumbuhan serta produksi kacang hijau. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan di rumah kasa dan laboratorium dengan menggunakan Rancangan Acak Kelompok Non Faktorial dengan 19 perlakuan dan 2 ulangan. Data dianalisis dengan ANOVA (Analysis of Variance) pada setiap parameter yang diukur dan diuji lanjutan bagi perlakuan yang nyata dengan menggunakan Uji Jarak Berganda Duncan (Duncan Multiple Range Test) pada taraf 1% dan 5% serta Uji Kontras pada taraf 5%. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pemberian kompos cair ganggang coklat dapat meningkatkan pH tanah dan P-tersedia tanah, tetapi menurunkan C-organik tanah dan N-total tanah serta K-dd tanah. Pemberian kompos cair ganggang coklat dengan berbagai kombinasi pupuk N dan K cenderung menurunkan semua parameter tanaman seperti tinggi tanaman, jumlah daun, jumlah cabang primer, jumlah polong per tanaman, dan bobot biji per tanaman jika dibandingkan dengan perlakuan tanpa kompos cair ganggang coklat.
