Pengaruh Lama Pemanasan dan Konsentrasi Giberelin terhadap Viabilitas Benih Kopi Arabika (Coffea arabica L.)

The coffee germination process needed a relatively long time it because the coffee seed has a hard seed shell that is impermeable to water. To maximize the germination of coffee seeds need to be treated before planting. This research was conducted at Seed Technology Laboratory of the Agriculture Faculty, Universitas Sumatera Utara, Medan with height + 25 meter above sea level, from April to June 2017, using randomized block design with 2 factors of treatment. The first factor was the heating time with temperature 40°C with 4 levels i.e. 0, 5, 10 and 15 minutes, the second with gibberellin concentration with 4 levels i.e. 0, 250, 500 and 750 ppm. Parameter observed were growth potential, germination rate, dead seed, vigor index, leaf appearance, hypocotyl length and root length. The results showed that the heating treatment had no significant effect on all parameter observed. Gibberellin concentration significantly affected of growth potential, dead seed and vigor index. The interaction between heating time and gibberellin concentration had no significant effect on all parameter observed.

Proses pembibitan kopi membutuhkan waktu yang relatif lama hal ini karena benih kopi memiliki kulit biji yang keras sehingga impermeabel terhadap air. Untuk memaksimalkan perkecambahan benih kopi perlu adanya perlakuan sebelum penanaman. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan di Laboratorium Teknologi Benih Fakultas Pertanian Universitas Sumatera Utara Medan dengan ketinggian + 25 meter dpl, dari bulanAprilsampaiJuni 2017, menggunakan rancangan acak kelompok dengan 2 faktor perlakuan. Faktor pertama adalah lama pemanasan dengan suhu 40°C dengan 4 taraf yaitu 0, 5, 10, dan 15 menit, faktor kedua konsentrasi giberelin dengan 4 taraf yaitu 0, 250, 500 dan750 ppm. Parameter pengamatan adalah potensi tumbuh, laju perkecambahan, benih mati, indeks vigor, waktu muncul daun, panjang hipokotil dan panjang akar. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan perlakuan lama pemanasan berpengaruh tidak nyata terhadap semua parameter pengamatan. Perlakuan konsentrasi giberelin berpengaruh nyata terhadap parameter potensi tumbuh, benih mati dan indeks vigor. Interaksi lama pemanasan dan konsentrasi giberelin berpengaruh tidak nyata terhadap semua parameter pengamatan.
