Abstract

Vitamin B1 is one  of vitamins that is soluble in water and has an important role, participating directly or indirectly in biological reactions for all living things. Vitamin B1 in plants plays a role primarily as a cofactor for enzymes involved in the processes of respiration, photosynthesis, synthesis of amino acids and fatty acids. Vitamin B1 in plants also plays a role in increasing plant resistance to biotic and abiotic stress. Vitamin B1 in plants is mainly synthesized in the leaf organs and translocated to all parts of the plant.  Vitamin B1 levels in plants vary between plant types and are strongly influenced by environmental factors. Plant cultivation activities, especially fertilization, greatly influence vitamin B1 levels in plants. Application of N and P fertilizers is reported to increase vitamin B1 levels, while K fertilizer can reduce vitamin B1 levels in plants.
