Abstract

Fruit flies (Bactrocera spp.) are important pests that cause significant reductions in fruit production. This study aimed to identify fruit fly species, associated parasitoids, and their parasitism rates on several fruit crops in North Sumatra, Indonesia. The research was conducted from May to October 2025 in Pancur Batu, Kabanjahe, and Secanggang Districts. Fruit samples showing symptoms of fruit fly infestation were collected and reared using the host rearing method, and the emerged insects were identified based on their morphological characteristics. The results revealed the presence of three fruit fly species, namely Bactrocera dorsalis, B. carambolae, and B. albistrigata, with B. dorsalis being the dominant species (786 individuals). The parasitoids identified belonged to the family Braconidae, namely Fopius sp. and Diachasmimorpha sp. The highest parasitism rate was recorded on Taiwan starfruit in Pancur Batu District (8.71%), while a parasitism rate of 3.23% was observed on Deli honey guava in Secanggang District. No parasitoids were found on tomato and Siam citrus. These findings indicate that parasitoids have potential as biological control agents against fruit flies.
