Classification of soil is a process to select the soil according to the characteristic and their ability.
Classification gives a description of the physical properties, chemistry, and minerals of land owned
which can then be used as a basis for management for land users. The study aim to classify the soils
on orders, sub orders, great groups and sub groups. The location at Village Sukorejo Subdistrict Sei
Balai District Batubara, that start from September 2016 until Januari, 2017. Soil morphology was
description of soil profiles to know soil properties, horizons and diagnostic horizon. Soil samples
were taken from each horizon for laboratory analysis of soil texture, bulk density, pH (H

O), pH
(KCl), P
2O5
, organic carbon, exchangeable cations (Ca
2+
, Mg
2+
, K
+
, Na
+
), Total Fe, Al can be
exchange, base saturation and cation exchange capacity (CEC) in Socfindo, Asian Agri, and
Chemistry and Soil Fertility Laboratories Agriculture Faculty University of North Sumatera. The
results shows that type of soil SPL 1A and 1B are Ultisols, Aquults, Albaquults, dan Typic
Albaquults. For SPL 2A and 2B are Inceptisols, Aquepts, Endoaquepts, dan Aquandic Endoaquepts.
Klasifikasi tanah adalah suatu proses pemilihan tanah yang didasarkan pada sifat-sifat tanah yang dimilikinya. Klasifikasi memberi gambaran sifat-sifat fisik, kimia, dan mineral tanah yang dimiliki yang selanjutnya dapat digunakan sebagai dasar untuk pengelolaan bagi pengguna tanah. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengelompokkan tanah pada kategori ordo, sub -ordo, great-group dan subgroup. Lokasi penelitian dilakukan di Desa Sukorejo Kecamatan Sei Balai Kabupaten Batubara, dimulai dari bulan September 2016 sampai dengan selesai. Morfologi tanah merupakan deskripsi profil tanah untuk mengetahui sifat tanah, horison tanah dan horison penciri. Sampel tanah diambil dari setiap horison untuk analisis laboratorium yaitu tekstur tanah, kerapatan isi, pH (H 2 O), pH (KCl), P 2O5, C-organik, basa-basa dapat ditukar (Ca 2+ , Mg 2+ , K + , Na + ), Fe Total, Al dapat dipertukarkan, kejenuhan basa serta kapasitas tukar kation (KTK) di Laboratorium Socfindo, Asian Agri dan Kimia dan Kesuburan Tanah Fakultas Pertanian Universitas Sumatera Utara. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa jenis tanah SPL 1A dan 1B adalah Ultisol, Aquult, Albaquult, dan Typic Albaquult. Untuk SPL 2A dan 2B adalah Inceptisol, Aquept, Endoaquept, dan Aquandic Endoaquept.
