Abstract

Bactrocera dorsalis is one of the main pests of orange plants in North Sumatra, especially in the Karo regency. The eruption of volcanic ash from Mount Sinabung caused a decline in orange production by 30% and also caused a change in population and attacks on several major orange pests, such as           B. dorsalis. This research was aimed to compare the number of populations and an attack percentage of B. dorsalis on orange plants in Karo regency. The research was conducted from January to March 2018 in Karo regency and the Plant Pest laboratory, Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Sumatera Utara using a survey method with 2 insect trap techniques (yellow trap and petrogenol) and repeated eight times. The results showed that the population of imago B. dorsalis in the eruption affected area was higher, which was 2.624 imago while in the non-erupted area it was 1.198 imago. The percentage of attack of B. dorsalis in the eruption affected area was higher at 20.59% while in the non-erupted area was 14.95%. For orange fruit production in areas that are not affected by the eruption was higher at 7.25 kg while in the eruption affected area was 6.06 kg.
