Abstract

Increasing human awareness of environmental issues, the use of synthetic fertilizers will be minimized and increased to use biofertilizers and fertilizers organic. This study aimed to determine the effect of the application of Azotobacter chroococcum  on the growth of two oil palm varieties in ultisol soil at pre-nursery. This research was conducted on the experimental field of the Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Sumatera Utara with an altitude + 32 m asl from May to August 2018. The experimental method used was factorial Randomized Block Design (RBD) with 2 factors and 3 replications, the first-factor being coconut varieties palm ( D x P Yangambie, D x P Simalungun) and the second factor is the dose of Azotobacter chroococcum / plant (0, 20, 40, 60 ml/seed). The results showed that the application of Azotobacter chroococum significantly increased the height, weight of fresh shoot, and weight of dry shoot and un significant increase in the number of leaves, total leaf area, the weight of fresh root, and weight of dry root. The use of two oil palm varieties and interactions un significantly to all observation variables.
