Abstract

Sweet potato is one of the most important non-seed carbohydrate sources. One effort to increase sweet potato productivity is the use of superior varieties and the provision of several types of organic fertilizers in overcoming the problem of low production. This study aims to determine the growth response and production of sweet potato genotypes   (Ipomoea batatas L.) on various types of organic fertilizers. The research was conducted in Mulio Rejo Subdistrict of Sunggal , Deli Serdang District of Medan, North Sumatera with an altitude of ± 25 meters above sea level from July 2018 until December 2018, using a group-randomized design with two factors, i.e :genotypes (Binjai and Perbaungan)and some types of organic fertilizers (chicken manure, cow manure, petrogenic, and sugarcane compost). The result showed that the treatment of two genotypes had the significant effect the parameters of the number of tubers per plant and tuber weight per plant, that the highest yield was obtained in Binjai genotypes. The sources of organic fertilizer significantly affected the harvest index parameters, and the interaction of genotype treatment and administration of several types of organic fertilizers significantly affected the parameters of tuber numbers per plant, tuber weight per plant, and harvest index.
