Abstract

This research aim was to identify the effect of lighting sources on the growth of micro shoots of Barangan Merah banana plants (Musa acuminata Linn.) using a temporary immersion system. This research was conducted at the Tissue Culture Laboratory of PT. Hijau Surya Biotechindo, KIsaran of Asahan Regency, Sumatera Utara Province, from May to July. This research used a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with 2 factors, namely the LED light source and Fluorescent lamp with 1 replication. The parameters observed were the percentage of shoots, number of shoots, length of shoots, number of leaves, the percentage of roots formed, number of roots, root length, leaf color, necrosis, and vitrification. The results of this research indicated that the shoot length parameters had a significantly different effect on lighting source treatment. While for the percentage parameters of shoot formation, number of shoots, number of leaves, the percentage of roots formed, number of roots, root length, leaf color, necrosis, and vitrification did not have a significant effect. Lighting sources of LED lights and fluorescent lamps showed no difference in the percentage of shoots, the number of leaves, the percentage of roots formed, hence the use of LED lights can be used to replace fluorescent lamps because they have more efficient properties in the use of electrical energy.
