Journal History

AQUACOASTMARINE was first established in 2013 under the title Jurnal Aquacoastmarine, managed by the Department of Aquatic Resources Management, Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Sumatera Utara. Since its inception, the journal has served as a scientific platform for disseminating scholarly works in the fields of aquatic resources, fisheries, coastal management, and marine sciences.

During its initial development phase (2013–2021), the journal primarily accommodated research outputs from academics, researchers, and students, particularly those related to freshwater ecosystems, coastal environments, fisheries management, aquatic biodiversity, and environmental quality. Over time, the journal strengthened its editorial governance, publication consistency, and peer-review standards, thereby expanding its academic relevance at the national level.

In response to the growing demands of scholarly publishing, digital accessibility, and international visibility, the journal underwent a major transformation in 2022 and was officially relaunched under the new title:

AQUACOASTMARINE: Journal of Aquatic and Fisheries Sciences

This rebranding represented a strategic milestone toward becoming a more competitive and internationally recognized scientific journal. Since then, the journal has been managed through the Open Journal Systems (OJS) platform, assigned an electronic ISSN, integrated with DOI registration services, and published under an open-access policy to ensure broader dissemination of scientific knowledge.

At present, AQUACOASTMARINE: Journal of Aquatic and Fisheries Sciences is published regularly twice a year and continues to welcome high-quality original research, review articles, and short communications in areas including:

Aquatic ecology and limnology
Fisheries science and management
Aquaculture and fish health
Coastal and marine resource management
Aquatic environmental pollution
Biodiversity and conservation of aquatic organisms
Remote sensing and GIS for aquatic systems
Climate change and aquatic sustainability

The journal remains committed to maintaining publication ethics, editorial excellence, and scientific impact, while continuously improving its quality toward national accreditation and international indexation.
