Authorship Criteria

Jurnal Teknik Kimia USU requires authorship to reflect substantial intellectual contribution, responsibility, and accountability for the work. To qualify for authorship, all listed authors must satisfy all four of the following criteria:

  1. Substantial Contributions: Substantial contributions to the conception or design of the work; or the acquisition, analysis, or interpretation of data for the work.

  2. Drafting or Revising: Drafting the work or revising it critically for important intellectual content.

  3. Final Approval: Final approval of the version to be submitted and published.

  4. Accountability: Agreement to be accountable for all aspects of the work and to ensure that questions related to the accuracy or integrity of any part of the work are appropriately investigated and resolved.

Contributor Roles

Authors are responsible for ensuring that all individuals listed as authors have made meaningful contributions to the manuscript and meet the journal’s authorship criteria. The corresponding author is responsible for confirming that the authorship information provided at submission is accurate and that all listed authors have approved the final version of the manuscript.

Non-author Contributions

Individuals who contribute to the work but do not meet all four authorship criteria should not be listed as authors. This may include individuals providing technical assistance, language editing, administrative support, funding acquisition alone, or general supervision without substantial intellectual contribution.

Such contributions should be appropriately acknowledged, with the individual's permission.

Author Order and Corresponding Author

Authors are responsible for agreeing on the order of authorship before submission. The corresponding author is responsible for coordinating communication with the journal, confirming that all authors have approved the submitted manuscript and relevant disclosures, and ensuring that the data, ethical statements, funding information, conflict-of-interest disclosures, and contributor statements are complete and accurate.

Corresponding authorship does not, by itself, indicate a greater contribution or seniority unless otherwise stated in the Author Contributions statement.

Changes to Authorship

Requests to add, remove, or reorder authors must be submitted before acceptance, accompanied by a clear reason and written agreement from all listed and affected authors.

After acceptance or publication, changes to authorship will only be considered in exceptional circumstances and must be supported by documented justification and agreement from all relevant authors. Any approved post-publication change will be recorded transparently through an appropriate correction.

Responsibility, Conflicts of Interest, Funding, and AI

All authors must disclose relevant conflicts of interest and sources of funding and must cooperate fully with any investigation concerning the accuracy, integrity, or ethical conduct of the work.

Artificial intelligence (AI) tools cannot be listed as authors because they cannot assume responsibility for the work, provide consent to publication, or manage conflicts of interest. The use of generative AI and AI-assisted tools must comply with the journal's Policy on the Use of Generative AI and AI-Assisted Tools.
