Journal History

Caring: Indonesian Journal of Nursing Science (IJNS) is an academic journal published by the Faculty of Nursing at Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU). Established in 2019, the journal was founded with the mission of providing a platform for researchers, academics, and practitioners to share scientific developments in nursing and health sciences. It publishes original research articles, literature reviews, and case studies, covering a wide range of topics such as clinical nursing, nursing management, community health, nursing education, and mental health nursing.

As an open-access journal, IJNS ensures that all its content is freely accessible to readers worldwide. The journal is published twice a year—in July and December—and uses a rigorous double-blind peer-review process to maintain the quality and credibility of its publications. While the majority of its articles are written in Bahasa Indonesia, the journal provides English abstracts and has gradually increased the number of full-text articles in English to reach a broader international audience.

Over the years, Caring: IJNS has been indexed in several reputable databases, including Garuda, Google Scholar, Dimensions, ROAD ISSN Directory, and BASE. However, as of 2025, it has not yet been listed in major international indexes such as Scopus or DOAJ, though there are clear efforts to meet the requirements for inclusion in these databases. With its commitment to high-quality research dissemination and continuous improvements in editorial standards, IJNS is positioning itself as a significant contributor to nursing science in Indonesia and beyond. The license changed from CC BY to CC BY SA in 2023 in accordance with university policy on license uniformity. Article publication fees will be implemented in 2025, volume 7.
