Abstract

Pineapple peel extract contains bioactive compounds, such as flavonoids and tannins, with photoprotective properties, making it a potential active ingredient in sunscreen formulations. Adding vitamin C, known for its antioxidant properties, increases the SPF value. The aim of this study is to examine the effect of adding vitamin C to the SPF value of pineapple peel extract cream. The method used is a laboratory experimental design, creating 4 cream formulas with 30% pineapple peel extract and varying concentrations of vitamin C in F1 (5%), F2 (7%), and F3 (9%), compared with a control cream that did not contain vitamin C (F0). Analysis using ANOVA showed a significant difference in the SPF values of the pineapple peel extract creams, which were influenced by the varying concentrations of vitamin C, with a p-value of <0.001 (p < 0.05). Duncan’s test further confirmed that the cream formula containing 9% vitamin C achieved the highest SPF, indicating excellent protection against UV exposure. The addition of vitamin C has an effect on increasing the SPF activity of pineapple peel extract cream.
