Copyright and Content License

1. Copyright Retention

Authors who publish with the International Journal Linguistics of Sumatra and Malay (IJLSM) retain full copyright and publishing rights of their articles without restrictions. Authors grant TALENTA Publisher, Universitas Sumatera Utara, a non-exclusive license to publish the article and identify itself as the original publisher. This agreement allows the journal to:

  • Publish, reproduce, and distribute the article in various forms (print, electronic, and other media).

  • Enforce proper attribution and protect the work against misuse or unauthorized commercial exploitation.

  • Preserve the work in long-term academic archives.

2. Open Access License (CC BY-SA 4.0)

All articles published in IJLSM are universally and freely accessible via the internet. To facilitate this, published articles are licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International License (CC BY-SA 4.0).

Under this license, the public (and the authors) are free to:

  • Share: Copy and redistribute the material in any medium or format.

  • Adapt: Remix, transform, and build upon the material for any purpose, including commercial use.

Under the following terms:

  • Attribution: You must give appropriate credit to the original author(s) and the journal, provide a link to the CC license, and indicate if changes were made.

  • ShareAlike: If you remix, transform, or build upon the material, you must distribute your contributions under the exact same CC BY-SA 4.0 license as the original.

  • No Additional Restrictions: You may not apply legal terms or technological measures that legally restrict others from doing anything the license permits.

3. Author Rights & Responsibilities

  • Reuse Rights: Since authors retain copyright, they have broad rights to share and reuse their work (e.g., depositing the post-print or published PDF in institutional repositories, presenting it at conferences, or publishing it in a book), provided that initial publication in IJLSM is properly acknowledged.

  • Required Documentation: Upon article acceptance, authors are required to sign and submit a Publishing Agreement (downloadable [here])—which grants the journal the right of first publication—and a Statement of Originality (downloadable [here]).
