Journal History
The International Journal Linguistics of Sumatra and Malay (IJLSM) was founded in 2023, with its inaugural issue, Volume 1, Number 1, published in December 2023, following its registration with EISSN 2986-3848. Since its establishment, IJLSM has maintained a regular biannual publication schedule, serving as a vital platform for scholarly discussions and research on the languages, dialects, and linguistic phenomena of Sumatra and Malay, while also embracing global advancements in linguistic studies.
Published by TALENTA Publisher under the management of the Doctoral Program in Linguistics, Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Universitas Sumatera Utara, and in collaboration with the professional academic association Dosen Indonesia Semesta (DIS) and the Masyarakat Linguistik Indonesia (MLI) Cabang Universitas Sumatera Utara (Indonesian Linguistic Society), IJLSM upholds rigorous academic standards and aligns with cutting-edge developments in linguistic research. By exploring the rich linguistic diversity of Sumatra and Malay, the journal contributes significantly to both regional and global linguistic scholarship.
Starting from the June 2025 edition, IJLSM will implement an adjustment in its volume and issue numbering system. Beginning with this issue, the journal will be designated as Volume 4, Issue Number 1. Going forward, Issue Number 1 of each volume will be published in June, and Issue Number 2 in December. This revision marks a shift from the previous pattern, in which Issue Number 1 was released in December. The change aims to enhance consistency and clarity in the journal’s publication timeline.
IJLSM’s credibility is further enhanced by its distinguished editorial board and international panel of reviewers, composed of prominent scholars from around the world. Their diverse expertise ensures that the journal’s publications adhere to high academic and methodological standards, positioning IJLSM as a trusted source of innovative linguistic research. This global collaboration bridges local linguistic studies with the broader international academic community, solidifying the journal’s role as a key contributor to the field.
