Politeia: Jurnal Ilmu Politik, for the first time published in June 2008 in printed form, and published two times a year in January and July. At that time, Politeia: Jurnal Ilmu Politik had five print volumes (ten numbers/issue) and then It was only registered for its print issue on January 19, 2012.
Since February 2016, Journal at the Universitas Sumatera Utara has just used OJS (Open Journal System), one of the software for open journal access. At that time, the management also could not be fully implemented by following the governance of the OJS regulation correctly. Even so, Politeia: Jurnal Ilmu Politik is maintained by the print edition which has had nine volumes (eighteen numbers/issues) from 2008 to 2016.
After getting to know the OJS (Open Journal System) in the early months of 2016, Politeia: Jurnal Ilmu Politik is listed on dated January 26, 2016, with SK no. 0005.25415913/JI.3.1/SK.ISSN/ 2016. 11-7 November 2016 (beginning with the edition of Vol. 9, No. 2, December 2016).
Politeia: Jurnal Ilmu Politik also has not maintained its consistency in uploading the volume of published articles to OJS (Open Journal System). Then in 2017, Politeia: Jurnal Ilmu Politik began to be reformed: Political Science Journal from the display of OJS (Open Journal System) which was gradually fulfilled and equipped with the provisions for writing journal articles that corresponded to the Politeia: Jurnal Ilmu Politik.
The scope of the articles published in this journal deals with a broad range of topics in the fields of power, politics, election, conflict, policy, thought, democracy, and another section related to contemporary issues in political science.
Politeia: Jurnal Ilmu Politik is a peer-reviewed journal published by Laboratory Department of Political Science based in Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) and collaboration with Asosiasi Program Studi Ilmu Politik Indonesia (APSIPOL: Association of Indonesian Political Science Department).
Since 2019 Politeia: Jurnal Ilmu Politik has been indexed by BASE, GARUDA, PKP Index and Directory of Research Journals Indexing (DRJI)
