Author Guidelines

Author Guidelines

The Journal of Civil Engineering and Public Infrastructure Management (JCE-PIM) is published by TALENTA Publisher, Universitas Sumatera Utara. The journal accepts original research papers, review articles, and case studies in the fields of civil engineering, infrastructure management, circular economy, and sustainable urban development. All manuscripts must be prepared in accordance with the following guidelines.

  1. Manuscript Preparation

Authors must use the official JCE-PIM template in Microsoft Word format. The manuscript should be written in clear English using Times New Roman, 12-point font, single spacing, and A4 paper size (210 × 297 mm) with 2.5 cm margins on all sides. The manuscript length should be between 6 and 12 pages including tables, figures, and references.

  1. Manuscript Structure

The manuscript must follow this structure:

  1. Title – concise and informative, written in 16 pt, Times New Roman, capitalized each word.
  2. Author Information – list all authors with institutional affiliations, city, postal code, and country. Indicate the corresponding author with an asterisk and provide an active email address.
  3. Abstract – maximum 250 words, written in 10 pt Times New Roman, summarizing objectives, methods, key results, and conclusions.
  4. Keywords – 3 to 5 keywords arranged alphabetically, separated by commas.
  5. Introduction – present background, research problems, objectives, and significance.
  6. Methodology – describe research design, data collection, materials, and analytical methods clearly enough to allow replication.
  7. Results and Discussion – present findings supported by tables or figures, interpret results critically, and compare with previous studies.
  8. Conclusion – summarize the main findings and implications of the study.
  9. Acknowledgements – optional; mention funding bodies, institutions, or individuals who contributed to the research.
  10. Conflict of Interest – declare any potential conflicts.
  11. References – follow IEEE style as described below.

  1. Tables and Figures

Tables and figures must be embedded within the text, numbered consecutively using Arabic numerals (Table 1, Figure 1, etc.), and placed as close as possible to their first citation. Each table and figure must include a clear caption and be of sufficient resolution (minimum 300 dpi). Only horizontal lines are allowed in tables. Figures should be in PNG, JPEG, or GIF format.

  1. Equations

Equations should be written using MathType and numbered consecutively with Arabic numerals in parentheses aligned to the right. Each equation should be separated from the text by one line space.

  1. Citation and References

Citations within the text must follow IEEE numbering in square brackets [1], [2], etc.
All references must be listed in numerical order at the end of the manuscript and correspond to those cited in the text. Examples:

A minimum of ten (10) references from reputable and recent sources is required.

Plagiarism, falsification, or duplication of data will result in rejection. Ethical approval and informed consent must be stated when human or environmental data are involved.

  1. Submission Process

All submissions must be made through the JCE-PIM online submission system. The corresponding author must ensure that all co-authors approve the final manuscript and agree with its submission.

  1. Peer Review

All manuscripts undergo double-blind peer review by at least two reviewers. The review process evaluates originality, scientific quality, and clarity. Revisions may be requested before final acceptance.

  1. Copyright and Licensing

Accepted papers will be published under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International License (CC BY-SA 4.0). Authors retain copyright but grant the publisher permission to distribute the article for academic and non-commercial use.
