Jurnal Online Pertanian Tropik (JOPT) is committed to maintaining the highest standards of academic integrity, originality, and ethical scholarly publishing. All manuscripts submitted to the journal are subject to plagiarism screening using Turnitin or other appropriate plagiarism detection tools before proceeding to the peer-review process.
The journal applies a maximum similarity index of 25% as an initial screening criterion. Manuscripts exceeding this threshold may be returned to the authors for revision and resubmission or rejected by the editorial team, depending on the extent and nature of the identified similarities. However, a similarity score below 25% does not automatically guarantee that a manuscript is free from plagiarism. The editorial team reserves the right to evaluate all similarity reports and determine whether potential ethical violations have occurred.
Before submitting articles to reviewers, all manuscripts are first checked for similarity/plagiarism using plagiarism detection tools by a member of the editorial team. JOPT uses Turnitin software to detect textual similarities in submitted manuscripts; a maximum similarity index of 25% is allowed. If the similarity index exceeds 25%, the manuscript will be returned to the author for correction and resubmission.
Plagiarism refers to the presentation of another person's ideas, words, research findings, or intellectual contributions as one's own without proper permission, acknowledgment, or citation of the original source. Plagiarism may occur in various forms, ranging from direct copying to inappropriate paraphrasing of previously published work. To identify and evaluate potential cases of plagiarism, Jurnal Online Pertanian Tropik (JOPT) recognizes the following forms:
Literal Copying: Literal copying occurs when an author reproduces another author's work, either entirely or partially, word for word without appropriate acknowledgment, quotation, or citation of the original source. Such practices may be identified by comparing the submitted manuscript with the original published material.
Substantial Copying: Substantial copying refers to the reproduction of significant portions of another author's work without proper acknowledgment or attribution. The significance of copied material is assessed in terms of both quantity and quality, including its intellectual importance and contribution to the original work.
Paraphrasing: Paraphrasing involves expressing another author's ideas, arguments, or findings using different words and sentence structures. This practice constitutes plagiarism when the original source is not properly acknowledged or when the rewritten text remains excessively similar to the original material. Appropriate paraphrasing requires accurate interpretation and proper citation of the original work.
